Your presence is the present

In quantum physics there is a theory called the “observer effect.” The idea is that when something is observed, it changes.

I love connecting this to our coaching work because when something, like a client’s experience, is seen and witnessed, it changes. This allows the client to begin their transformative journey through the new meaning-making that can come from this witnessing. Oftentimes, perfectionism can take over our role as coaches, when really, we are simply called to be present, to simply observe.

This Weekly Connection invites you to explore what presence is inviting you to become as a coach, as a healer and feeler, as a person called to make change. Let’s dive in!

The Quote We Are Pondering

presence is the present quote

Do not opt out of the BEST case scenario because you’re afraid of the worst case scenario that may NEVER come.” ~Luvvie Ajayi Jones

Luvvie is a self-proclaimed “professional troublemaker” as well as a two- time New York Times Best Selling Author. This quote caught my attention during a podcast interview she did recently, and it seemed to really resonate with the importance of staying present… present to what you are feeling and desiring now.

Think about it, when we let “worst case scenario” thinking lead, like often happens when fear shows up, we shift out of the present. The same goes when we are working with our clients. So, I invite you to share this quote with them and ponder it deeply with yourself. In your next session with your clients, invite them to stay present to the “best case scenario” that their soul is calling them towards. Share what shows up over on IG @bodymindliving.

The Embodiment Exercise We’re Loving

Being present to something as uncomfortable as a cancer diagnosis is exactly what Dena Halle, BodyMind Method© Coach and Ambassador, shares in this week’s embodiment video. She learned what stillness and her cancer journey looked like for her, and it wasn’t about going off in the woods and literally being still.

Instead, her sense of presence to herself, her health, her current state was what she calls “stillness in motion.” Check out how she explains it in this quick embodiment video from her Navigating Stillness blog on BodyMind Living.

Coach Spotlight

Meet Julie Stevens, BodyMind Method© Coach and Certified Massage Therapist

Julie is a pain, stress and rest specialist helping women and wellness entrepreneurs achieve balance and healing in their life so they can reach their ultimate health and wellness goals.

She calls Minnesota home, yet reaches clients through both in-person and virtual work in order to support their ability to connect “mind+body+soul.” Julie calls this the “Essential 3,” and that is also the name of  her BodyMind Coaching program she offers to help clients claim the present. She describes her work as follows:

As a BodyMind Coach I will encourage and empower you to connect with your body, notice what you feel and to use your voice to speak up for yourself and define how you want to feel. This work is deep, meaningful and life changing.

We couldn’t agree more, Julie!

The Articles We’re Reading & Using With Our Clients

Melissa Kelley presence

When talking about the heart of coaching and presence, the word freedom often shows up. We coach to support our clients’ activation of freedom… free from what is constraining them, free from what is preventing them from taking the necessary steps towards their goals and desires. Melissa Kelley, BodyMind Ambassador, wrote about this very thing in her article on Redefining Freedom. She shares:

…there is a paradox to freedom; that in order to even desire freedom, one must first be awake to the restlessness and discontent of feeling bound, constrained. And that to fully embody freedom, one must first have fully embodied the absence of it.

Wow. Let that last line sink in. Then, take a moment to write about how freedom is or is not with you right now, in the present moment. Share this article and your writing on social media and tag us @bodymindliving.

Resources For Your Holistic Practice

When you make a cup of tea, there is a certain level of presence required. The water in the kettle needs time to heat up. Then, the tea needs time to steep.

This is the beauty of “ritual tea,” as Lauren Piro, BodyMind Method© Coach and creator and owner of Radicle Remedies, calls it. She offers a special tea ritual set specifically designed to help you set up your own practices around a warm mug of tea, grounding roll on oil, and amazing resources to help you get started!

All of Lauren’s products are “made by hand with loving kindness. So you can feel good about feeling good!” Grab your set today and use it for your own practice of presence.

Love note from Laura

My hope for you as you read this Weekly Connection is that you notice what happens when you disconnect from the chatter of your mind, connect back into your body, and feel the fullness of the moment. And, while the only true stillness that any of us will ever experience is when our final breath has left our body, there is something in those precious moments of presence where I feel a deep sense of peace, connection, and purpose.

I truly believe the heart of coaching is inviting you to become more present. Rather than thinking we need to show up perfectly poised with all the right answers for our clients, what if we simply become a witness to what is here in the present?

On a recent embodiment call with our BodyMind Coaching clients, one of our graduates shared this perspective: “Don’t present, be present.”

We often forget that simply being present with somebody and allowing them to be seen and witnessed is where transformation begins. Your presence is present enough. This is the space where life gets to open up for you, your business, and your clients’ desired results.

What if it really gets to be that simple?

Love,

Laura
